Letters from the Chancellor

Dear Parents/Guardians of PS 159,
Every year, we ask you and other NYC Public School Families to make your voices heard by responding to the NYC School Survey. Families can choose to take the survey online or on paper. The survey collects information designed to support a dialogue among all members of your school community about how to make your school a better place for your child(ren) to learn. This information is often used by our School Leaders to help prepare for next year. Your child should have received an envelope with their name and ID number on the front. The envelope contains a survey form and a pre-paid return envelope. To ensure surveys can be scanned properly, we need for you to please follow the instructions below:
1) Use black ink, blue ink, or pencil ONLY for bubbling in responses.
2) Fill in the selected answer bubbles completely.
3) Do not include any stray marks on the page.
4) Do not write over the QR code.
5) Do not tear the paper or attempt to remove the staple.
However, if you did not receive a paper survey or you did, but would like to complete the survey online instead, please see information below:
Families can access the survey by logging into their NYC Schools Account (NYCSA) and take the survey in the language of their choice by going to www.nycschoolsurvey.org. Parents/Guardians need only their child’s nine-digit Student Identification (OSIS) Number to complete the survey. Parents/Guardians will enter a lowercase “f” and their child’s nine-digit number as the survey code (e.g., f123456789) to complete their unique survey. If you have any questions,
please do not hesitate to reach out to the Parent Coordinator, Mrs. Kim Johnson at 718-423-8553, Ext. 2 or via email at email@example.com.
**This year, the deadline to complete the survey is Friday, April 5th.
Please view the map for updated dismissal locations.

Student Council is collecting new and unwrapped toys for children in need.
If you would like to donate, drop off your toys outside the auditorium by Thursday, 12/15.
The winning Participatory Budget project is…Rock painting!
We have ordered all the supplies and when they are delivered, the whole school will paint rocks. Then we will place all the rocks outside around our school to make P.S.159 extra beautiful!
But don’t be sad that your vote didn’t win because we will also be having a Family Fun Night later this year to tie dye shirts! In addition, Mr. DiDio and the school will be purchasing more recess equipment!
We hear you! Your voice matters! Happy Civics For All week!

Show your School Spirit by wearing our school T-Shirt or PS 159’s colors of Blue & White.
You can purchase a School Spirit T-Shirt from the PTA along with a variety of other School Spirit Active Wear. Also, our Physical Education Teachers have shirts and apparel for sale that help support our Physical Education Program.
**If you ordered school apparel from Ms. Marcus and did not receive it due to school closing, you will receive your order when school resumes.**
I am so excited to join the P.S.159 community! My initial weeks have been a whirlwind of warm greetings and uplifting messages! You have my heartfelt gratitude. I have been an educator for the past 15 years, with the last 10 years spent at BELL Academy in Bayside, Queens as the Special Education Coordinator. I am a Bi-lingual Chinese American and a mother of elementary school aged children. Having grown up in Queens myself, I deeply appreciate the significance of the values cherished by this community, and I am committed to upholding these principles. Bayside truly holds a special place in my heart.
As I become part of the P.S. 159 family, a school with an impeccable reputation and outstanding leadership by exceptional school leaders, along with the most amazing teachers, staff and parents, I am overwhelmed with honor as I join this esteemed team. My utmost priority is to contribute in ways that will add more value to this already amazing school. I am excited to work alongside Principal DiDio who possesses unwavering dedication to education and a genuine passion for success of both students and staff.
